Establishment of the "National Park of Peace" in S. Anna di Stazzema (Lucca)

Cultural context

On 12 August 1944, the 16th SS Panzer Grenadier Division murdered 560 civilians in a single morning — one of the worst Nazi massacres on Italian soil. The village was never rebuilt. The national park of peace was established in 2000.
